Genie Roller Replacement: The Orlando Owner’s Guide

Genie roller replacement in Orlando typically costs $110 to $220 installed, and we stock Genie-compatible rollers on our trucks for same-day service in most cases. That price includes the rollers themselves, the labor to swap them, and a quick track inspection while we’re in there. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: a grinding, rumbling sound when the door moves, or a door that shudders and sticks halfway up. It’s rarely dramatic, but it never gets better on its own.

Here’s the thing about garage door rollers: they’re the quiet workhorses of the whole system. Each Genie door runs on four to ten rollers, and when one starts to fail, the door’s weight shifts slightly, which stresses everything else. In Orlando’s humidity and heat, nylon roller bearings dry out faster than they would up north, and that’s a difference we see every week from Conway to College Park. The fix is straightforward if you catch it before a cracked roller scores the track.

Which Genie Models This Applies To

We replace rollers on every Genie residential line we’ve encountered in Orlando: the IntelliG, TriloG, and ReliaG series, plus the older ProMax and Excelerator models still running in plenty of garages around Winter Park and Baldwin Park. Genie doors use either 7/16″ or 11/16″ roller stems depending on the hinge style, and matching that stem diameter is non-negotiable. Too thin, and the roller rattles in the hinge. Too thick, and it won’t seat at all.

The fastest way to identify what you need is to look at the hinge itself. Genie stamps part numbers on the hinge plate on most models. If the stamp is worn off, we measure the stem with a caliper on-site. We carry both stem sizes plus a selection of nylon rollers with sealed bearings, which are the sensible upgrade over the factory steel rollers. Genie’s OEM rollers are fine, but a quality aftermarket nylon roller runs quieter and lasts longer in Florida’s climate. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Genie, so we’re free to recommend what actually holds up rather than what ships in the box. We also stock parts for LiftMaster and Chamberlain doors, which helps when a home has a mixed setup, like a Genie opener on a builder-grade Clopay door.

Signs Your Genie Roller Replacement Is Failing

  • Grinding or rumbling during travel. The bearing inside the roller has lost its lubrication and is chewing itself up. You’ll hear it most on the curved track sections where load shifts.
  • Visible flat spots or missing nylon casing. A roller with flat edges doesn’t roll; it drags. Dragging rollers chew up track rails, and that’s a pricier repair than swapping rollers early.
  • Door shudders or jerks midway up. One or more rollers are binding, so the door fights itself as it moves. The jerk is the door momentarily catching and releasing.
  • Lopsided gap under the door when closed. A collapsed roller on one side lets the door settle unevenly. That gap is also an entry point for Orlando’s famous palmetto bugs and humidity.
  • Door has popped out of the track. This is the endgame. A roller that disintegrates lets the door’s weight pull it off the rail. If this happens, don’t force the door down; call us.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For most Orlando homes, replacing all rollers on a single Genie door runs $110 to $220 installed. That’s not just parts. It includes removing the old rollers, installing new nylon rollers with sealed bearings, checking alignment, and adjusting the track where needed. We give you a written price before any wrench turns, and that number is what you pay on the invoice. No surprises, no “it got complicated.”

What moves the price within that range is mostly the number of rollers (a 16-foot door has more than a single-car door) and whether any hinges are worn. If a hinge is cracked, we’ll show it to you and price a replacement separately. Every roller replacement we do is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the fix isn’t right, we come back and make it right, free, for a full year. We also do cable repair in the $130 to $250 range and spring repair at $180 to $340, in case the inspection turns up something else.

DIY or Call Us?

Roller replacement looks simple, and on some models it is genuinely low-risk: a roller with a clip retainer on the bottom bracket can sometimes be popped out by hand. But most Genie doors route rollers through hinges that are under tension from the door’s cables. If the door starts to rise while you’re between sections, or if you remove a roller from a hinge that’s loaded, you can lose fingers fast. Springs and cables don’t care how handy you are.

What you can safely do is watch the door and report what’s happening. If it’s noisy on the curves, if a wheel wiggles in the track, if the door hesitates. Tell me what it’s doing – or not doing – and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs. That’s a real offer. Call (850) 790-4744 and Jaylen Ross or one of our techs will talk you through what you’re seeing before we ever send a truck.
