We provide independent Orlando Genie service, from sensor calibration and keypad entry to full opener replacement. Our techs work on Genie openers weekly across the city’s humidity-heavy neighborhoods, and we’ve solved everything from Intellicode frequency drift to legacy screw-drive carriers without ever needing manufacturer authorization. We fix the machine, not the badge. Call (850) 790-4744 for a written price before any work begins, backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
Genie has been a fixture in American garages since 1954, when the company introduced the first mass-produced residential garage door opener. Orlando’s two-car garages, many built after 1990 in HOA-governed subdivisions, still run thousands of Genie units every day. And those units fail in predictable ways that we’ve learned to diagnose fast, because Orlando’s climate punishes garage door hardware in ways most manufacturer manuals never address.
As an independent Genie service provider, we are not affiliated with or authorized by Genie. What that means for you: we recommend the fix that makes sense, not the fix that protects a corporate relationship. Jaylen Ross, owner of Marlow Garage Door Repair Orlando, has spent well over a decade diagnosing Genie openers and doors across the city. He’ll tell you exactly what a screw-drive carriage is, why it’s grinding, and whether it’s worth saving.
Why Trust Marlow Garage Door Repair Orlando for Your Genie Garage Door?
Because we see the same Genie failures every week across Orlando’s planned communities, from Avalon Park to Lake Nona to Kissimmee. Our technicians are background-checked, uniformed, and trained on eight major brands, but Genie work has its own rhythm. The screw-drive PowerMax units from the 2000s fail differently than the belt-drive IntelliG series from the late 1990s. A ReliaG opener that hums but won’t run isn’t the same problem as an Aladdin Connect opener that won’t pair. When you book with us, the tech who arrives already knows your specific door and opener because you told us the model breakdown on the call or booking form.
Jaylen Ross grew up in Los Angeles and learned his trade fundamentals at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before moving east for warmer weather and a different pace. Years of Orlando garage door work taught him that humidity corrodes Genie track hardware faster than anything in Southern California, and lightning storms wreak havoc on Intellicode receiver boards. He’s built his team’s reputation on fast diagnosis and plain explanation without the upsell theater. “Tell me what it’s doing – or not doing – and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs.”
We carry Genie OEM-compatible logic boards, receivers, safety sensors, and keypads for current models locally. For older units where OEM parts are discontinued or backordered for weeks, we use proven aftermarket kits that match or exceed original specs. Every repair comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the fix fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge.
Styles & brands we work with

Common Genie Garage Door Problems We Fix in Orlando
- Intellicode receiver desync after lightning storms. This is the most Orlando-specific Genie failure we see. A thunderstorm rolls through, lightning strikes nearby, and suddenly your remotes and keypads only work when you’re standing three feet from the opener. The rolling-code sequence in the receiver board loses sync with your remotes. We reprogram the receiver, replace the logic board if the damage is deeper, and get your remotes working from the end of the driveway again.
- Screw-drive carriage wear on PowerMax units. The Genie PowerMax series uses a screw-drive mechanism with a plastic travel carriage. After 8 to 12 years, that carriage strips out. You’ll hear a grinding noise and the door moves 6 to 8 inches before stopping. The fix is a new carriage kit, and we use aftermarket kits that outlast the original plastic.
- Broken RPM sensor wires at the motor head. Genie uses small-gauge sensor wiring that runs near the light cover on many models. Over time, that harness chafes against the plastic housing, the wire frays, and the opener intermittently reverses for no apparent reason. We find the broken wire, splice it properly, and secure the harness so it doesn’t happen again.
- ReliaG logic board relay failure. If your ReliaG opener hums for a few seconds and stops, and you’ve already confirmed the capacitor is good, the relay on the logic board has likely failed. This is a common failure on mid-2000s ReliaG chain-drive units. Board replacement beats buying a new opener, and we stock boards locally for fast turnaround.
- Failing photo-eye sensors after painting or heavy humidity. Orlando’s humidity gets inside sensor housings and causes corrosion on the terminals. Homeowners often make it worse after painting the garage and accidentally nudging a sensor out of alignment. The blinking red light means the beam is misaligned or the sensor has failed. We calibrate or replace sensors, and we’ll tell you which one you need before we touch a wrench.
Genie Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
We default to Genie OEM logic boards, receivers, and safety sensors whenever they’re available for current models. Intellicode timing tolerances are tight, and aftermarket receivers sometimes cause range issues that OEM parts don’t. But for older screw-drive carriages and gear kits, we use proven aftermarket parts that outlast the original plastic. The original PowerMax carriage was a known weak point. The aftermarket replacement we install is a better part than Genie put in the unit originally.
Here’s how we decide repair versus replace. If a PowerMax unit is over 15 years old and needs both a logic board and a gear kit, we quote repair and new-opener numbers side by side so you can see the honest math. On ReliaG and Aladdin Connect openers, we repair first because those units were built better and replacement often costs more than the fix. You’ll see the written price before any work starts, and that’s the number you pay. Call (850) 790-4744 to talk through your specific opener.
Our Genie Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. We ask what the opener is doing, or not doing, and check the specific failure points for your Genie model. Intellicode receiver sync, screw-drive carriage wear, sensor alignment, and board relay function all get tested in the first 20 minutes.
- 2
Written price. Before any wrench turns, you get a written price covering parts and labor. That’s the number on your invoice, every time. This is our standard, not a negotiation.
- 3
Repair or installation. We use OEM or proven aftermarket Genie-compatible parts, installed by a background-checked technician who already knows your model. Sensor calibration, keypad entry programming, and opener replacement all happen in this step.
- 4
Testing. We run the opener through at least ten full cycles, check force settings, verify Intellicode sync on every remote and keypad you hand us, and confirm the safety sensors reverse properly.
- 5
Warranty. Every job is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repair fails within a year, we come back and make it right free of charge.

AfterGenie Products We Service & Install in Orlando
We service and install the full Genie lineup: PowerMax screw-drive openers, IntelliG belt-drive units from the late 1990s and 2000s, ReliaG chain-drive openers from the mid-2000s, and Aladdin Connect smart openers. We install new Genie belt, chain, and screw-drive openers, and we pair Aladdin Connect units with Genie’s app. Locally, we stock sensor kits, receiver boards, keypads, and carriage replacement kits for the most common Genie models. Less common parts usually arrive within a few days.
Orlando’s subtropical climate makes surge protection worth considering for any new Genie opener install. Daily thunderstorms and frequent power flickers are rough on garage door opener electronics, and a surge protector at the outlet is a $25 insurance policy against a $150 board replacement. We’ll recommend it when we install, and we’ll never hard-sell it.
We Also Service These Brands
Genie is a big part of our Garage Door Repair services, but it’s not the whole job. We’re trained on eight major brands, including LiftMaster and Chamberlain, the two you’ll find in roughly half the garages across Orlando. Being multi-brand means we diagnose by symptom, not by logo. The tech who arrives already knows your specific door and opener, whatever badge is on the motor.
FAQs – Genie Garage Door Service in Orlando
Why does my Genie Intellicode opener only work when I press the remote very close to the door after a storm?
Lightning activity can knock your receiver’s rolling-code sequence out of sync with your remotes, and the receiver board itself may be damaged. We reprogram the Intellicode receiver and replace the logic board if the receiver can’t hold sync. Call (850) 790-4744 and describe what happened post-storm, and we’ll tell you what you’re likely dealing with before we even arrive.
Can you convert my old Genie PowerMax screw-drive to a belt drive without replacing the whole opener?
No, and we won’t pretend otherwise. The screw-drive rail and the belt-drive rail are completely different assemblies, and the motor head is designed around the drive type. When a PowerMax’s screw-drive carriage is chewed up, the honest fix is either a new carriage kit, or a new opener if the motor is also tired. We’ll show you both numbers and let you choose.
My Genie ReliaG opener hums for a few seconds and stops – is it the capacitor or the board?
If the capacitor tests good, the hum-and-stop symptom on a ReliaG usually means the logic board relay has failed. We test the capacitor first because it’s a simpler fix, but if the capacitor holds a charge, the board is the culprit. We stock ReliaG-compatible boards locally and can often swap one same-day. Call (850) 790-4744 for a free estimate.
Does your keypad entry service work with Genie’s wireless Intellicode keypads from different years?
Yes. We program current Genie Intellicode wireless keypads and we can sync older keypads to existing receivers when the keypad is still functional. If your keypad is dead, we carry replacements and we’ll have it programmed before we leave. Keypad entry service runs $100 – $220.
Can you calibrate Genie safety sensors that keep blinking red after we painted the garage?
Usually yes. Paint overspray, nudged sensor brackets, and Orlando’s humidity all cause Genie photo-eye sensors to lose alignment or fail. We clean the lenses, realign the beam, and test the reverse function. If the sensor itself is corroded or dead, we replace it with an OEM-compatible unit. Sensor calibration runs $90 – $180.
How much does Genie garage door service cost in Orlando?
Genie service costs vary by the job. Opener repair runs $120 – $320, opener installation $250 – $550, spring repair $180 – $340, and keypad entry $100 – $220. You get a written price before any work starts, and that’s the number you pay. Call (850) 790-4744 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
